Sacred Heart School is proud of the sports programs offered and the traditions they have established. Fundamentals, rules and conditioning, competition, and lessons associated with winning and losing are taught by coaches at the school. Students regard athletics as a fun, rewarding, and memorable part of the school experience that teaches values such as teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive self-esteem. At Sacred Heart School, we value the life lessons that our students learn by participating in our sports program.
Sacred Heart joined the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), which is a division of Catholic Charities Community Services, and supports the work of hundreds of parishes throughout the Archdiocese of New York to administer organized athletics programs for children and youth ages 4 to 21. In keeping with our mission, CYO Athletic Programs serve youth of all backgrounds and religions. CYO Athletics Programs are not just about the games we play. CYO emphasizes positive coaching, and sportsmanship for children and their parents, building diverse communities, and reaching one’s potential as a physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual being. CYO Athletics Programs are designed to be representative of the values of respect, love, compassion, and support for each other. Through sports, competition, and teamwork, CYO Athletics provides healthy growth and development through games, practices, and the life lessons that sports teach.
